Russian social media influences in America More information is gradually being uncovered about Putin's role in the 2016 American election. There have been huge allegations regarding the collusion between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in the presidential election, but with the surfacing of new reports we are realizing that this collusion was rather extensive. A report put out by Oxford University reveals that Russian social media techs infiltrated American social media platforms in order to deter certain demographics from participating in the presidential election. The new knowledge report states in particular black millenials were targeted. The Russians were motivated to suppress Democratic turnout, thus ceeding the elections over to President Trump.  Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram were the main sites found to be hiding these huge Russian influences according to the Senate Intelligence Committee.  Many calculated that Russia's role was consequential in a Trump v

"The Truman Show" and Guerilla advertising In "The Persuaders" a topic that was widely acknowledged was Guerilla advertising. Guerilla fighting in the context of war is surprise attacks. In advertising it allows a product to extend beyond just the conventional form of commercial advertising. The success of guerilla advertising results in the prevalence of it within tv shows, or our favorite movies. The main character picks up a refreshing Coke after heroically fending off the [insert villain]. When this technique was mentioned in The Persuaders I immediately thought of the movie called "The Truman show". The Truman Show is a movie based around the main character Truman. Truman seems like an average guy who proceeds with his regular anti-climactic life. However what Truman fails to realize is that his life is the basis of the most popular TV show out there.  He is being filmed 24/7 as he is living in a simulation of a real town.  The #METOO movement on Social media  In two words the problem of sexual harassment and assault stared directly in our faces, it was unavoidable, unbelievable and could no longer be dismissed by the public as a minute problem. Preceding this media movement, hashtags on twitter were synonymous with irrelevant millennial issues, perhaps a breakup or a spilled iced latte. No one could have anticipated how a real-life issue would materialize into one of the biggest hashtag movements in the history of social media. Twitter could no longer be interpreted as this unnecessary time wasting site, it was now a platform to expel the controversial truths of what happens every single day. Sexual harassment and assault occur at unprecedented rates, but the social stigma surrounding this form of assault is extensive, making it increasingly difficult for victims to share their experiences, seek justice, or help. An aspect of social media that normally takes on a negative connotation is the abilit

Article analysis- Cnn vs. Fox News In the days leading to the midterm election, the most prominent topic in the political sphere was the Caravan, which was rapidly advancing on the US border. This caravan had extended beyond its literal definition of a group of men, women, and children walking towards the border. With the escalating political tension in the US, this situation was quickly twisted by the left and the right to perpetuate certain extreme ideologies about immigration, and win over voters. Though both CNN and Fox News would like to portray themselves as completely impartial and unbiased, the true political opinions of each media group was illuminated in this extremely controversial situation. Fox News:   https://www.foxnews.com/world/caravan-migrants-breach-us-border-amid-anger-from-slow-asylum-seeking-process The first sentence of this piece begins with  "At least two dozen Central American migrants -- who claim they're disillusioned and frustrated with th

Why do we turn to social media platforms to escape everyday life? I think that social media platforms have under gone a really transformative wave throughout the last few years or so. Mass amounts of people are now using snapchat, facebook, instagram, and twitter. Why do so many see the appeal of these sites that consume our time and kills our productivity? Many scientific discoveries conclude that engaging on these social media sites releases pleasure inducing chemicals into our brain. Instant satisfaction and the ability to escape an unpleasant situation in reality and engage in a world that has no knowledge of who you are, or your problems. A distraction, a way to escape the boring yet complicated reality of our lives. Over break I went to dinner at a casino in Nevada. When I went inside I was instantly bombarded by the bright blinking lights, the smell of smoke, and mass amounts of people fixated on their slot machines. They were entranced, so focused. Even if they wa
